Hey, Fleming Island 👋
It’s 904 Day, it’s Labor Day weekend, and there is a genuinely ridiculous amount happening around here over the next three days.
There’s also a heat index of 103 and an afternoon storm every single day from now through Labor Day. Green Cove Springs looked at that forecast, shrugged, and told everyone to wear teal anyway. Honestly, respect. 🏈
Coffee up. Here’s what’s good around Fleming Island, and roughly when to do it. 🌴

TODAY AROUND THE ISLAND
Storms likely after 3.
Heat index near 103, and a quarter to half an inch of rain when it comes. This morning is the driest stretch of the whole weekend.
It’s 91, it’ll feel like 103, and the party’s still on
Four things are happening outside between now and Sunday, and the weather has an opinion about all of them. Here’s how we’d play it.
Front-load it. Storms hold off until around 3 today and about 1 tomorrow. Sunday holds out until 2, and Labor Day is a 90 percent chance of rain more or less all day. The weekend gets soggier as it goes, so do the outdoor things early and do them now.
It’s 91 today and 93 tomorrow, feeling like 103 and 106. Drink more water than you think you need.

Food Truck Friday is on, rain and all. Teal-out for the Jaguars, 5 to 9 at Spring Park, free raffle at 8:30.
The storms should clear around 9, so 8:30 is the wettest moment of the night. Go early, eat first, stay for it.
Saturday morning still works. The Fleming Island Saturday Market runs 9:30 to 2 at Village Square, and the rain isn’t due until 1. Go in the morning, and you’ll beat it.

🐶 Shelly has been waiting since February

Yes, we noticed. No, we’re not going to make it about us.
Shelly is a two-and-a-half-year-old mixed breed at Clay County Animal Services. Black and white, with a white stripe straight down her nose. She came into the shelter on February 18th. That was 198 days ago.
She’s spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her shots, which is how every dog leaves there. And an adult dog costs $20, which is not a typo. That fee goes up to $25 on October 1st.
We don’t know much about her personality, because unlike most of the dogs there, her listing doesn’t have a write-up. So if you’re curious, the best thing to do is call and ask, or just turn up. No appointment needed.
Clay County Animal Services · 3984 State Road 16 West, Green Cove Springs
Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm · (904) 529-4107
Animal ID 60283360. Not in a position to adopt? Fostering frees up a kennel, which is what lets a shelter say yes to the next dog.
One more good thing: a very big maybe on Jacksonville’s Westside 🎪
Someone wants to build a 50,000-seat outdoor concert and festival campus on Jacksonville’s Westside. It’s called The Grounds, it’s a $120 million proposal, and the plans include camping, vendor markets and a workforce training academy.
Worth knowing what this is and isn’t. No site has been picked, negotiations with local government are still going, and Jacksonville is the developer’s first choice rather than a done deal. He’s also in talks with markets in Georgia and Texas.
So: not a thing yet. But if it lands, it lands about forty minutes from here, and we’d all know about it. Here’s the reporting.
Before you go... tell me something good 💛
