Morning, Fleming Island 👋
This week's spotlight isn't a business. It's a club full of junior high kids.
Last year, they collected more than 300 toys. Friday, they're hoping we'll help them beat that. Plus a flood warning update, ghost stories Thursday night, and Halloween nearly at the door. 🎃

WEDNESDAY SPOTLIGHT
🧸 The Lake Asbury kids who help other kids
The candy gets people through the gate. The toys are why they're doing it.
Lake Asbury Junior High's Kids Helping Kids Club supports Dreams Come True of Jacksonville, which fulfills dreams for local children facing life-threatening illnesses. Through its school and youth-group program, students raise money to sponsor a child's dream and get to meet their sponsored Dreamer.
Friday, they're asking the rest of us to show up with a new toy.
The club's third annual Trunk or Treat Toy Drive runs 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the school, 2851 Sandridge Road. Expect decorated trunks full of candy, a DJ, fire trucks, face painting, games and food for sale, plus some vehicles from sponsor Garber Automall. Last year the club collected more than 300 toys.
Two ways to help: bring a new toy on Friday, or decorate your car and sign it up as a trunk. As of last week, they were still looking for more trunks; the sign-up form is linked in their recent posts.

👻 Friday afternoon: the Not-So-Spooky Halloween Celebration at the Fleming Island Library, 2 to 4 PM. Costumes, trick-or-treating through the library, games and crafts.
🎬 Friday night: Casper at the Clay County Fairgrounds drive-in, gates at 6.
🏈 Friday night football: Fleming Island hosts Bishop Kenny at 7.
⏰ Sunday: clocks fall back an hour.
🗳️ Still time to vote early: 9 AM to 6 PM daily through Saturday at the Health Department, Building 600, 1845 Town Center Blvd.
🎃 Friday's issue has the full Halloween weekend, plus the tally from Monday's question. Still haven't answered? Pick your main plan and reply CANDY, COSTUMES, COUCH or FOOTBALL.
Before you go... tell me something good 💛
See a new business opening? Know of an event we should add to the calendar? Got a neighbor doing something wonderful, a local team having a big season, or just something good happening around Fleming Island?
Send it our way. This only gets better when all of us help find the good stuff.
❤️ Tell Us Something Good: A neighbor doing something kind. A kid doing something awesome. Something new going in or on around town. Anything that makes you think, "people around here should know about this."
📅 Submit an Event: Live music at a local restaurant, a fundraiser, a festival, a market, a school activity. Anything locals can put on their calendar.
⭐ Get Featured: Own a local business? Tell us your story through a short interview and give the community a chance to meet the people behind it.
See you Friday,
Shelly 🌴
